Rosters grow, standards drop, and development takes a back seat. Recreational-level coaches are hired into “competitive” environments, and while some teams may win games, winning alone does not equal development.
Anyone can kick a long ball to the fastest player and call it a game plan.
But real soccer development asks harder questions:
- Can players keep the ball under pressure?
- Can they combine with teammates?
- Can they make five or more passes to break down a defense?
- Do they understand spacing, timing, and decision-making?
